One thing to consider when cooking is that the true talent in preparation is not simply in the food that has the most or rarest ingredients; one must also consider the method of preparing the food.
For instance, one could have on hand the best sorts of food, the finest and most expensive ingredients, and then end up preparing them using the microwave- which, of course, is not to speak down or illy of the microwave and its usefulness, as it does have its place, but it is to make the point that this wouldn’t be appropriate.
Likewise, one may be preparing a simple food (say, grilled cheese) but use extremely fine ingredients- fresh, crusty French bread and expensive blue cheese and freshly minced garlic with European butter- and create an absolute masterpiece.
These are just some thoughts rolling around in my head. My blog entry yesterday wasn’t so very long, and then, while reflecting on it last night, I realized that I had a sense of incompletion in my day in that I hadn’t really written as much as I should. Now, I don’t plan to entirely counteract that today by writing far too much, but I do think its worthy to note that writing is one of those things that I must do or risk suffering if I don’t do it. Drinking coffee would come to a close second.
Isn’t it wonderful, though, to be addicted to something productive like writing? That’s a worthy thing to celebrate today! With all the drugs and terrible habits people find themselves caught in, imagine that, I’ve come upon writing as my own drug.
Friday night, I went to see Kelly on her deck as an impromptu event. We had plans to go fishing on Saturday at our friend David’s house, but I cancelled due to an unfortunate circumstance. I’ve not been fishing in years, and I do wonder if catching fish would change my mind about whether or not I eat them. I might then reduce my list to shrimp and other varieties of seafood without eating outright fish. Am I really becoming a full-blown vegetarian? Who knows? I’ve not a problem in the world if I am, though it’ll make eating out more difficult.
I took my bottle of non-alcoholic Sparkling Red Grape Juice to Kelly’s. I love sparkling grape juice. It’s much better tasting than alcohol and doesn’t get one drunk. Incidentally, it was also the autumnal equinox, so I took one of my Novena candles (a plain white one) to say a prayer and pray for a good fall this year.
Wistful feelings stir within as leaves without soon will; the chill will delicately play in the air until finally we enter into winter and experience its terrifying, icy grips. Last year was the first year I grew to hate winter, though that was for a number of reasons, not the least of which was how cold I was the whole time, and no, I’m not going to let anyone forget that.
In the meantime, I’ll enjoy the mildness of the weather as it comes and goes. Hopefully the chills won’t come too terribly soon, and we’ll be able to experience the mildness and celebrate it.
Now that I have the juicer, I’ll be able to make all kinds of great-tasting juice recipes and enjoy myself with those. Kelly mentioned a recipe book which I’ll have to look into and use. I wonder if pumpkins can be put in the juicer?
Also, this year, people began Halloween exceptionally early. At this point, it’s okay, I suppose, being the end of September, but it began at the end of August…very strange that the collective minds have shifted in that direction. Christmas shall also come early this year, I’m afraid- watch for Santa before Halloween is over.
Carpe Diem!

DG already has Christmas deco. on their shelves!
OH, bananas!
My vote is you become a full-blow veggie head!
Yes! For instance, today I had fish sticks, which I loved as a child, and now I realize how terrible they are, so…yes, I’m caught in a bit of a bind.
